Electric Zoo Festival returning to NYC with more security

The Electric Zoo Festival is headed back to New York City, but this time with additional security and health measures.

Last year's event was cut short following two drug-related deaths, but organizers announced this week that the festival will be held on Randall's Island once again this summer.

The 2014 edition will now include drug-sniffing dogs at all entrances, as well as more plainclothes security officers specializing in narcotics patrolling the festival grounds.

Organizers say they're also shortening the length of each day's show and plan to provide free water and cheap electrolytes for dehydrated attendees.

Festival-goers will also have to watch a drug safety video before their tickets are validated.  The clip is part of Electric Zoo's "robust PSA campaign" that will reportedly include leading artists.  This year's festival is scheduled to take place August 29th through the 31st.

In a press release, co-CEOs of Made Event and creators of Electric Zoo Mike Bindra and Laura De Palma say, "We are incredibly excited to bring Electric Zoo back to New York. Over the past five years, Electric Zoo has grown tremendously, becoming a critically acclaimed, internationally recognized music festival. The opportunity to again host Electric Zoo on Randall’s Island is a responsibility we take seriously, and we look forward to expanding our safety and security measures in order to further improve the concert experience for our fans."

Electric Zoo announced that tickets will go on sale for the festival on Tuesday, April 29th. The festival lineup is expected to be announced in the coming weeks and months leading up the festival along with a comprehensive guide to the festival to help assist attendees.
